Acceptance for the Past
We all have baggage that we carry from our past. While we can’t change it, we can certainly accept it by seeing the past for what it was, exploring the opportunities and possibilities that came out of it, and then dreaming big!
When you write down your weight loss goals you increase the odds of achieving them. But first, you must figure out what you want to achieve, and then commit to it. Start with a big picture goal of how much weight you want to lose in the next 6 to 12 months. Then break these down into short-term milestones such as losing 5 to 10 percent of the goal by the next week or month so you can start moving towards them like a boss!
Planning for Your Goals
Now you’ve established what you want to do, you’ll need to ensure your goals are going to stretch you in a SMART way. Broadly defined this means goals which are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timed. For example, “I want to lose 40 pounds in 6 months with the ORBERA® Weight Loss Balloon.” as opposed to “I want to lose weight”.
Try New Things
The fear of the unknown can leave you feeling paralyzed when you’re forced to branch outside of your comfort zone. But living the same way, day after day robs you of fresh, engaging experiences that can reinvigorate your life. So, feel the fear and do it anyway! Take a stab at that new exercise routine, attempt a new dish this week, try out that new hobby, and become a “yes” person.
Put Yourself First
Putting yourself first might sound selfish, but it’s exactly the opposite. If you want to live an amazing and abundant life, it starts with loving yourself. That means making your sleep, nutrition, and well-being a priority. Learning when to say no, without feeling guilty, and finding new ways to enjoy life, and do what makes you happy.
Many people fail to accomplish their goals because they lose sight of what they want to achieve. Tracking helps you to focus on the important things you need to do to move toward your goals. For example, tracking your food intake and exercise levels allows you to monitor your calories and the food choices which will help you lose weight, and hopefully stick to them.
Structure Each Day
With so many distractions competing for your time, it pays to add structure to your day. Set yourself up for success by creating a to-do list with your top 3 priorities for the following day. Have a well-balanced breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Complete everything before 8pm, and right before bedtime, ask yourself a self-improvement question, so your brain can creatively search for the answer while you sleep.
Give yourself the celebratory back-pat, as soon as you complete a key task, objective or goal. It keeps you motivated, makes you feel good and inclined to work harder. Next time you complete an hour at the gym or lose an extra 5 pounds, treat yourself to a massage or that new pair of shoes you’ve always wanted.
