Meet our 2018 Orbera Challenge 10K Recipient – Feria Goodwin
Meet our 2018 Orbera Challenge 10K Recipient, Feria Goodwin! To date, Feria has lost 61 lbs. with Orbera. This is her story…
As a child, I dealt with obesity and throughout my teen years, I was known as the “cute chubby girl.” I tried numerous fad diets such as weight loss shakes, diet pills, starvation diets and weight loss programs. I lost weight but my successes did not last long, I would lose a little and then gain back even more. As an adult, I developed high blood pressure, was pre-diabetic, suffered from arthritis and had high cholesterol. I watched family member after family member suffer from similar diseases and ailments. Then the unthinkable happened and was a defining moment for me – my younger brother died of the same health problems I was experiencing. I knew then I had to make a change but I realized I couldn’t do it on my own. I considered bariatric surgery but was hesitant because they were such invasive procedures.
One day while doing weight loss research, I came across the Orbera weight loss procedure and saw it was minimally invasive. I immediately made an appointment. That initial appointment was my first true step towards a successful and meaningful weight loss journey. My first week with Orbera, I lost 17 pounds. I gained more energy, my blood pressure decreased and I could move around better, without pain. Over this 5-month journey, I have lost a total of 61 pounds. Orbera is the best decision I have ever made. These last 5 months, I learned how to change my eating habits, I now take a minute before I eat to understand why I am eating. I also exercise at least 5-6 times a week.
The weight has come off, but my biggest achievement with Orbera is that I learned to truly love myself, take responsibility for my own actions and hold myself accountable. I admit this journey has not been a walk in the park. It takes determination, dedication and hard work to achieve your goal of weight loss.
I thank Orbera for saving my life and helping me to transform into a healthier, leaner me.
